Designer Jewelry for Valentine’s Day

Valentine’s Day is right around the corner, and if you’re anything like me, you’ve requested flourless chocolate cake and designer jewelry. One of those can be homemade. We’re low-maintenence like that. Cartier, Tiffany and David Yurman just make excellent presents, that’s all. And even better if your Valentine is smart enough to shop estate. Why pay retail for something that was made to last a lifetime anyway? I take the same approach to pre owned Louis Vuitton (also an acceptable gift from any sweetheart.) And if you’d rather go that route, Sell Your Handbag has a great sale of Valentine’s Read More →

No Hassle Tassel Jewelry

TASSELS! That’s right, this fun fringe means you can tie them on drawer handles, trim Ikea curtains with them so they look super fancy, they’re easy to make yourself, and they often come in leather. I’m a big fan. And this spring, there’s no hotter way to wear the tassel trend than on yo’ jewelry. It all started, as a jewelry trend blog post is wont to do, with a Tumblr post: And today, for Cyber Monday, Raymond Lee Jewelers is offering plenty of special tasseled goodness for 40% off, thanks to Italian design house Officina Bernardi. Just Right Spessartite

Spessartite garnets are some of the most vibrant, beautiful gems, and catch your attention like no other. They’re relatively uncommonly seen in jewelry – most garnets are the better known shade of deep red – so when you do see them, it’s a treat. They’re closer to the color of fire opals, but obviously a totally different gem family (they’re a variant of garnet, like tsavorite.) Spessartite garnets have been growing in popularity, and Tiffany & Co. incorporated the gem into a few kew Read More →

Inspired By: Aquamarine

While March is slowly waning, its birthstone is just heating up. The gorgeous gem aquamarine is prized for its beauty. And it’s been safely guiding seafarers home and away from sirens for millenia if its lore to believe. Besides helping you avoid chance encounters with Ursula the sea witch, it looks like it might be valuable for yet another reason: its trendsetting properties. Not since emerald swept every color palette in late 2012 has a jewel tone reigned so supreme over everything from interior to design to fashion to fine jewelry. In fact, said emerald saturation earned the hue the Read More →

Web Roundup: Feeling Blue (And Little Yellow)

This week I am blue. Perhaps it’s a tribute to March’s beautiful birthstone aquamarine. Maybe I’m still feeling the Nairobi blue of Lupita’s Oscar’s gown. Either way, the cool tones of blue caught my eye all over the net this week. With one major exception in the RLJ showcase and if you read this blog regularly you’ll have a solid guess as to which non-blue color it is! Add to this the blue skies I saw today over the Windy City and the promise of mid-forties temperatures next week, I won’t be singing the actual blues this weekend – here’s Read More →
